ATHN Data Summit 08

Presentations and pictures from Data Summit 08 are available online!
This past summer’s first annual ATHN Data Summit, held in Chicago from July 31st through August 1st, set a precedent for success with more than 135 physicians, nurses, licensed social workers, data managers and government collaborators in attendance. Based on the evaluations, 49 out of 50 attendees would recommend the ATHN Data Summit to their colleagues.

Attendees were given updates on ATHN’s activities and major initiatives. The ATHNdataset and the emergency preparedness program – ATHNready – energized the group. Information about how to apply for data management funding from ATHN offerred immediate value. Working groups showcased work in progress about data collection for rare bleeding disorders, solicited input on priorities and options related to thrombosis and trained participants to maximize the use of Lab Tracker™ for HDS reporting and clinic-based activities. Breakout groups explored potential ways to develop the capacity of ATHN’s research capabilites and to prepare for migration to the web-based version of Lab Tracker. Attendees previewed ATHN’s approach to patient authorization for the ATHNdataset, its basis in the federal Privacy Rule, and how ATHN and CDC’s Universal Data Collection initiatives fit together.
