From The Board Room - ATHN 2008 Strategic Plan

As the new year rang in on January 1st, so did the new ATHN Board of Directors for 2008. ATHN welcomes five new board members this year and 12 more who continue their service from 2007. See the inset for a list of current officers and directors.

Among its first key actions in the new year, the Board adopted the strategic plan for 2008. The plan lays out five strategic directions, each with detailed milestones.

The 2008 plan identifies several opportunities to pursue under each Strategic Direction. These include:

  • Network Infrastructure
    • Gain and engage ATHN Affiliates in efforts to develop its database
    • Build community trust
    • Expand local capacity by funding and training data managers
    • Establish regional data management structure
    • Define and establish the core dataset for both bleeding and clotting
  • Data Management
    • Through the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) cooperative agreement, create a disaster preparedness plan with adoption by HTCs and patients
    • Assist HTCs to provide core meaningful data to patients on flash-drive, CD-ROM, or printed report
    • Data encryption and redundant back-up
  • Public Health and Safety
    • Become an invaluable resource to the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) and the CDC
  • Outcomes Management
    • Get data to clinical decision makers
    • Help insure the survival of treatment centers by demonstrating and driving quality and service
  • Data Analysis and Research
    • Clarify roles vis-à-vis CDC, HTRS, MCHB for research
    • Attract research proposals to appropriately use the database
    • Publish related to our work
    • Formalize relationships with the for-profit sector

2008 will be a busy and exciting year as ATHN works to meet the milestones identified in its strategic plan. Meeting these milestones will further the acceptance ATHN is gaining and the momentum it is building.
